The Role of Experience in Translation

The term translation refers to the conversion of content from one language to another.  Companies and even individuals need their documents to be translated from source language to their target language.  When it comes to translating, it is much preferred if the translator will translate documents only into the translator’s native language or to the language which they are more proficient.  Some translators become more proficient in the language of the country where they lived for several years than their native language.  The best results of translation could be achieved if one will translate into the language in which he is of great competence.

The task of translation is very complex for it involves specialized terminology, punctuation, stylistic nuances and spelling and grammar rules.  It is also important to remember that words and concepts sometimes have unique meanings in certain cultural context.  Different cultures differ in the way they interpret meanings therefore a good translator need to be aware on these things.  Some foreign language don’t have an exact equivalent for some concept therefore the translator’s task is to paraphrase the information.

There is a great role for experience when it comes to translation.  Professional translation’s main goal should be to facilitate an effective communication between different cultural groups and linguistic groups.
